Alpaca walking experiences near Loughglynn
Two ways to spend time with Bert, Ernie and Oscar — a guided one-hour walk through field and forest with Kieran, or a 45-minute encounter in their enclosure.
Your walk takes about an hour at a gentle pace. Kieran guides every tour and picks a route to suit the group. Here's how the visit usually flows.
1
Meet Kieran and the alpacas
Your visit starts in front of the farm. Kieran welcomes you, introduces the alpacas, and gives a short safety and information talk — then picks a route to suit the group.
2
Across the field
We set off across the open field. Big skies, soft grass — the first few quiet minutes for everyone to settle in side by side.
3
Into the forest
From the field we head into the woodland. The light changes, the path softens underfoot, and the alpacas walk calmly with you. There's usually a moment everyone goes quiet — it's that kind of place.
4
Along the forest edge
We finish along the pine-edge — a relaxed return back to the farm. Time for last photos, last hellos, and (if you fancy) a coffee or an ice cream before you head off.
the encounter
What the Alpaca Encounter looks like
About 45 minutes in the alpacas' enclosure — not a walk, but unhurried time to feed them, give them a neck tickle, and hear about life on the farm. Small groups may be combined into one session.
1
Meet the alpacas in their enclosure
This isn't a walk — you come into the enclosure where the alpacas live. A few quiet minutes to say hello and let everyone get comfortable at their own pace.
2
Hand-feed them
We provide the treats. You hold out your hand — they'll come over and take it gently. It's the part most visitors remember.
3
Neck tickles, not heads
Alpacas love a good enthusiastic neck tickle but don't like having their heads touched. Your host will show you exactly where they enjoy a scratch.
4
Stories from the farm
You'll hear about their daily routine — what they eat, how they're cared for, and the small habits that make each one different.

Bert
white
Bert is our steady white alpaca, unbothered by big crowds and small visitors. If you've never met an alpaca before, he's a gentle place to start.
Ernie
brown
Ernie's deep chocolate coat and curious eyes make him the photographer's favourite. He likes to take the walk at his own thoughtful pace.
Oscar
cream
Oscar is the warm, social one with a famous fringe. He tends to be the first to come over and the last to want to head back in.

What's part of a visit
Time with all three alpacas
Every visit puts you with Bert, Ernie and Oscar — three boys, each with his own pace and personality.
A welcoming host and a short briefing
Your host opens every visit with a quick introduction to the alpacas and a friendly safety and info talk — so everyone knows what to expect.
Hand-feeding and unhurried photo time
Treats are on us. We never rush the photos — stop whenever you'd like a picture, your host is happy to take it.
And afterwards…
Coffee and homemade ice cream are available at the farm to enjoy before you head off — a small extra, not part of the visit price. A nice way to slow down after the fresh air.
before you arrive
A few small things to know
Nothing scary — just the little habits that make the visit easier for everyone, alpacas included.
1
Walk beside your alpaca, not in front.
Alpacas prefer it that way — they like to see where you're going and to follow your shoulder, not lead from behind.
2
They don't graze during the walk.
We feed our alpacas before and after, so they walk happily without stopping for the grass. You don't need to tug — they know the routine.
3
Touch their necks, not their heads.
Alpacas love an enthusiastic neck tickle but don't like having their heads touched. Your host will show you where they enjoy a scratch.
4
Children under 12 walk with an adult.
Younger walkers stay with a grown-up for the full hour. The adult holds the lead, the child walks alongside.
5
Sturdy shoes recommended.
The field and forest can be soft after rain. Wellies in winter, walking shoes the rest of the year.
Allergens and dietary needs
Coffee and ice cream are available at the farm to enjoy after your visit. If anyone in your group has a food allergy, intolerance or dietary requirement, please let us know before you arrive so we can prepare accordingly.
